Show/hide question logic, sometimes also referred to as display logic, is a feature that customizes a survey based on a respondent's answers or custom data. It automatically shows or hides specific questions, making the survey more relevant to each person.
Using show/hide logic can greatly improve your survey's effectiveness. Better respondent experience: By hiding irrelevant questions, you keep your survey focused and reduce frustration. For instance, if you ask "Do you own a pet?" and the person answers "No," all follow-up questions about pet food or vet visits will be hidden. Higher completion rates: When a survey is shorter and more personalized, respondents are less likely to get tired of answering questions they don't care about, which leads to more completed surveys. Higher-quality data: By tailoring questions to each respondent's specific situation, you gather more accurate and relevant data. This helps reduce response bias and gives you better insights.Let's consider an example where we are asking respondents to select the phone brands they have used. For each phone brands, we have follow up questions that we want respondents to answer. However, it doesn't make sense to ask respondents questions about a brand that they have not used. To set this up, we can use show/hide question logic.
Go to: Login » Surveys (select survey) » Edit For the question you want to show/hide, click on the logic option. For show/hide question logic, you can create criteria based on the following:
For show/hide question logic based on questions earlier in the survey, a page break is required before the question that needs to be hidden or shown.
If you wish to show or hide questions dynamically on page, then you can enable the Dynamic (on page) logic toggle. With this toggle enabled, now you can show or hide questions on the same page as and how respondents answer questions on that page. This feature is available with the following licenses :
